The Holy Roman Empire stands on the brink of collapse in 1525.

While princes, bishops, and nobles struggle for power and influence, ordinary people are already fighting for their very survival. Heavy taxes, forced labor, and arbitrary rule drive more and more peasants into despair. Frustration turns to anger. Anger turns to resistance. And dark clouds gather over an entire nation.

At the center of these turbulent times stands Florian Geyer.

A Franconian knight, he belongs to the nobility. Yet his heart beats for justice. Where others look away, he sees the suffering of the people. Where others punish, he listens. As he witnesses families destroyed by hunger, crushing burdens, and the cruelty of their rulers, he begins to realize that the order he has defended all his life has long since begun to crack.

Together with his intelligent and courageous wife, Katharina, Florian tries to mediate between the opposing sides. On one side stand people like Jakob Köhl, fighting for freedom, representation, and a life of dignity. On the other are men like Duke Ulrich of Württemberg, whose rule is built on fear, violence, and oppression. Between them, a conflict grows that can no longer be stopped.

The closer the uprising draws, the more difficult Florian’s choices become. He must watch friends being forced to take opposing sides. He sees power placed above humanity. He witnesses hatred and revenge driving out every hope of understanding. And in the end, he too must face the question of which side of history he wishes to stand on.
