Synopsis
Germany, 1525: Hunger, heavy taxes, and the arbitrary rule of the nobility and the Church push many peasants to their limits. The winemaker Jakob Köhl also witnesses hope and justice slipping further and further away.
When the peasants rise up, the ordinary man becomes an important voice of resistance. But the path to freedom is dangerous. Caught between friendship and betrayal, courage and despair, Jakob must make decisions that will shape not only his own fate.
